Your Fitbit Will Soon Monitor Your Snoring at Night

Have you ever wondered how much you snore? If you own a Fitbit, it seems that you’ll soon be able to find out, as an APK breakdown has revealed a new sleep noise detection feature.

Introducing Fitbit’s Snore & Noise Detect Feature

9to5Google has reviewed the code of the latest version of the Fitbit app (version 3.42) on the Play Store and discovered a new feature called Snore & Noise Detect.

According to descriptions within the code, the new feature will enable your microphone during sleep so that your Fitbit device can monitor noise, including snoring.

Your Fitbit will analyze noise level to determine a baseline, then record any noise above this to judge whether it’s snoring. It will then assign you a label based on how long you were snoring for.

For example, snoring for less than 10% of your total sleep time is classed as “none to mild”, while snoring 40% or more of the time is “frequent”.

However, there are some limitations to be aware of. First, if you sleep alongside another snorer, the app won’t be able to separate the snoring. Second, if your snoring is quieter than your ambient room noise, the app might not pick it up. Finally, it’s recommended that your Fitbit has at least 40% battery before going to sleep, since the feature will drain your device.

Currently, Fitbit offers basic sleep tracking, monitoring your movement and heart rate to determine how long you’ve been asleep for and what sleep cycles you’ve been through.

While there are plenty of great sleep tracking devices available, existing Fitbit owners will be pleased to see more advanced sleep health features arriving on their devices.

Though Snore & Noise Detect isn’t widely available yet, 9to5Google were able to briefly enable the feature, so it seems likely it’ll be launching soon.

You Can Find Out What Your Sleep Animal Is

Another feature that appears to be in the works is “Your sleep animal”. 9to5Google notes that this is in early development as there’s lots of placeholder text, but it seems that the Fitbit app will assign you an animal based on your sleeping habits.

For example, you could be a bear, dolphin, hummingbird, or tortoise. There’s also more standard descriptions like “restless sleeper” and “shallow sleeper”, which might be paired up with the animals.

Sleep Health Is Important

It’s really important that you get enough sleep because it’s a key way to keep your body healthy. Monitoring your sleep habits can be very useful because it can help you understand your internal body clock and discover whether you snore.
