How to Adjust the Brightness on Your Nintendo Switch

Have you ever found you are squinting at the tail end of a gaming binge and don’t know what day or time it is? Time flies when you’re having fun, but your eyes are sure to feel it pass by, even if your brain doesn’t; looking at a screen for that long is strenuous.

In a world of screens, we can see eyestrain as a pandemic. Thankfully, changing the brightness on your Nintendo Switch is incredibly easy. Here’s how.

How Do You Adjust Your Switch Screen Brightness?

The Nintendo Switch has built-in sensors that detect when your environment is getting darker. However, the amount of light that each person needs to game comfortably varies from person to person.

When displays provide too much or too little light, people experience symptoms of computer eye strain.

Should you find that your Switch automatic brightness settings don’t exactly match your needs, don’t worry. There are several ways that you can adjust your Switch brightness levels.

How to Adjust Your Switch Brightness Using System Settings

To adjust your Switch brightness using system settings, open your Switch homepage and select System Settings > Screen Brightness. From there, you can use the slider to adjust the screen brightness to your preferred brightness levels.

How to Adjust Your Switch Brightness Using Quick Menu

If you’re mid-game and need a quick brightness change, the Switch also has a built-in quick menu to change brightness. To access it, hold the home button for a few seconds until the quick menu appears. From here, you can use the slider to adjust to your preferred brightness level.

Alternatively, you can also opt to keep your Switch automatic brightness feature and manually adjust only when necessary. If you turned off your automatic brightness feature, you can easily turn it on again by going to System Settings > Screen Brightness > Automatic Brightness and turn it On.

Alternatively, you can also toggle this option on from the quick menu by pressing the home button until the quick menu appears.

Keep Your Eyes Safe When Gaming

With all the amazing games out there, it’s no secret that most of us just don’t have enough time for them. If you cram entire games during your day off, take care of your eyes while you’re at it.

Aside from adjusting the brightness, make sure that you invest in lamps to light up your gaming areas at night. Lessening the disparity between your screen light and the environment will make for a longer and more comfortable gaming experience.
