Microsoft Teases New Spotify Pomodoro Productivity Integration

Ever conscious about improving your productivity, Microsoft is set to launch a new Windows 11 feature: Focus Sessions. Focus Sessions comes with a Spotify integration that functions like a Pomodoro Technique timer, helping you to break tasks down into small chunks to maintain focus and boost your overall concentration.

Windows 11 Focus Sessions Integrate Spotify Timers

A tweet from Microsoft Chief Product Officer Panos Panay revealed the upcoming Windows 11 feature.

From the tweet, it appears that Focus Sessions is a new feature integrating into the Clock app. Once opened, you can create a to-do list for your day, then set a customizable timer. After setting your timer, you can choose from your Spotify playlists, hit the play button, and immerse yourself in your activity.

The Focus Sessions tweet also shows a task tracker in the top-right corner, tracking your daily progress within tasks and your overall time, while it also looks like there is a gamified “streak” counter lurking in there too. The pencil icon likely means these trackers are customizable (or even removable), but as yet, this is all the information we have to go on.

One of the biggest draws for Focus Session is the Spotify integration. It appears that you can select from any of your favorite Spotify playlists from within Focus Session, where the app will use the playlist to track your time and switch off when it is time to take a break.

The timer technique is very much from the Pomodoro style of productivity, where you work for a period before taking a short break. Instead, the short bursts are designed to boost overall concentration and stop the mind from wandering during prolonged periods of concentration, something everyone experiences from time to time.

The keen-eyed will have noted that the Focus Session teaser tweet reveals more than just a new Windows 11 feature. That’s right; the short clip features another glut of new Windows 11 icons, many of which were previously unseen.

The new icons come as part of the wider visual overhaul sweeping through Windows 11. Judging by what we’ve seen, the new icons will fit in nicely with the existing replacements and help to make Windows 11 a more visually appealing modern operating system.
