How to Enable and Use Event Recording With a Wyze Camera

The Wyze camera can notify you and send a video clip when it detects motion, sound, or either one individually. This is a nice security enhancement for your smart home, with lots of helpful settings and capabilities.

We’ll show you how to set up this feature, and go into some real-world scenarios involved with using it.

Enabling Motion and Sound Detection

Enabling motion and sound detection is easy with the Wyze app for iOS and Android.

  1. In the Wyze App Home screen, tap the camera you want to use for enabling motion detection
  2. Tap the settings gear in the upper right corner
  3. In the Settings screen, tap Event Recording
  4. Tap to toggle on the button next to Detects motion if you want the camera to record a video clip when detecting motion
  5. Tap to toggle on the button next to Detects sound if you want the camera to record a video clip when detecting sound
  6. If you want the camera to detect sound or motion only during specific times of the day, rather than using the default all day setting, tap the Schedule link
  7. Tap to toggle off the button next to All Day. You’ll see Start Time and End Time settings
  8. Scroll through the hours, minutes, and am/pm settings for your start times and end times. For example, maybe you only want the camera to detect motion while you’re away during work, so you might set 9 a.m. as your start time, and 5:30 p.m. as your end time
  9. Tap the Back arrow ( in the upper left corner to apply your settings

  2. Tap the settings gear in the upper right corner
  3. Under the Settings screen, tap Detection Settings
  4. Under Motion Detection Sensitivity, move the bar to the left for lower sensitivity or to the right for higher sensitivity

Detect Motion Only Within Specific Areas of Your Camera’s Field of Vision

You can set a Wyze camera to detect motion only within a certain area. For example, you can prevent tree branches outside your window from tripping the motion sensor when the wind blows. Just remove those windows from the detection zone—the area within your camera’s field of vision which will detect motion.

  1. Tap the Detection Zone link
  2. Tap to toggle on the button next to Detection Zone
  3. You’ll see your camera field of vision covered by a grid of individual squares
  4. Tap each individual square where you want motion detection enabled
  5. You can select a single square, multiple squares to create a zone, and/or different individualized zones within the field of vision. Using our tree branch example, you would not select the squares which cover that window
  6. Tap the Save link in the upper right corner to apply your settings

Testing It Out

Notifications will automatically enable when you enable motion and sound detection. Make sure your notifications aren’t snoozed. In the app home screen, tap the bell in the upper right corner to toggle on or off the notification snooze feature.

When snooze is on, you’ll see a few ‘zs’ over the notification bell. Walk into your camera’s field of vision and your Wyze camera will push a notification to your Wyze app.

In the app Events screen you’ll see the recorded event listed on the day and time it occurred. Tap the event to view the recording.

If you need to tweak your notification settings:

  1. In the Wyze home screen, tap the camera which has motion or sound detection enabled
  2. Tap the settings gear in the upper right corner
  3. Tap Notifications

Wyze Cameras Provide Peace of Mind

Wyze cameras provide great security and convenience for your smart home realm.

The motion detecting feature is smart enough to notify you when there is motion in your home from an intruder, and not to notify you when it’s just your pet. The Wyze app has all the settings you need for customizing your unique smart home needs.
